Itinerary:

Hong Kong is packed full of fascinating markets, and you’ll discover the best of them on this unique walking tour as we get in amongst where the local of people of Hong Kong have shopped for over 100 years and continue to do so, despite and in spite of the development rising around them.

We kick things off on a fragrant note at the Flower Market. This vibrant and colourful street market consists of more than 50 shops and is a jungle of exotic blossoms, luck-bringing houseplants and sweet scents. Next, it’s onto the nearby Yuen Po Street Bird Garden, a charming traditional Chinese-style garden with over 70 songbird stalls, interesting courtyards and several moon gates.

Soak up the peaceful surrounds and listen to the sound of thousands of birds - it’s easy to forget about the crazy city streets that lie just outside the gates. Head back into the streets, walking to Goldfish Street, where locals buy goldfish and other exotic fish from around the world. Discover why the goldfish is the preferred pet in Hong Kong and how these small fish are said to bring lucky feng shui.

Visit the popular Ladies Market, famed for its bargain-priced clothes, bags and accessories. Perhaps try out your bargaining stills, otherwise, admire the market’s setting deep within Mong Kok. This is the world’s most densely populated neighbourhood with over 130,000 people per square kilometre! Stroll down Nathan Road, passing by the newly built five-star Langham Place hotel and mall, before reaching Shanghai Street.

Glimpse what 1950s and 60s Hong Kong was like in this street, which was once famous for selling everything from traditional wedding clothes to ancestral offerings. Head into the Yau Ma Tei fruit market, and see the shop houses and exotic fruits from all over the world in this century old wholesale market. Call by the world-famous Jade Market, which has more than 400 hawkers, and learn about how locals believe jade can ward off health hazards and bad feng shui.

The final stop on this walking tour of Hong Kong’s markets is a visit to Temple Street. See the city’s working class culture first-hand as you stroll through the city's famed night market or admire the Sea Goddess Temple that is the street’s namesake and the Yau Ma Tei Public Plaza where local people like to spend a lazy afternoon under the beautiful Chinese Banyan trees.

Danny was fantastic - only wish I was in Hong Kong longer to do another Urbane adventure. I would recommend the experience to anyone. We saw and experienced so much - can't wait to try another tour.
